How to Scan a QR Code From an Image on Android

Android phones ship with Google Lens and Samsung adds Bixby Vision — but neither reads every image. A browser decoder is the reliable fallback.

Method 1 — Google Lens or Bixby Vision

  1. 1Open Google Photos (or Samsung Gallery) and select the image with the QR code.
  2. 2Tap Lens (Android) or Bixby Vision (Samsung) and let it analyse the picture.

Lens works best on clean, high-contrast codes. Heavily compressed WhatsApp images and small codes inside screenshots often return nothing at all.

Method 2 — Decode it in Chrome (no app needed)

  1. 1If no QR result appears, open Chrome and go to the QRDecoder tool page.
  2. 2Tap the upload area and pick the image from your gallery or downloads.
  3. 3The decoded URL or text appears immediately — copy it or tap to open the link.

Nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded: the QR image is processed locally by your browser, so the decoded Wi-Fi password or ticket link stays on your phone.

Samsung and Android tips

  • Samsung Gallery: use Crop before decoding so the QR fills the frame.
  • Screenshots from WhatsApp, Telegram, or Instagram all work.
  • If a download is a PDF, screenshot the QR page and decode the screenshot.
  • Add the decoder to your Home Screen from Chrome's menu for instant access.
