How to Scan a QR Code From a Screenshot on a Computer

Desktops rarely have a usable camera, and holding your phone up to the monitor is fiddly. Decode the screenshot directly instead.

Step-by-step

  1. 1Capture the QR code: Win + Shift + S on Windows, or Cmd + Shift + 4 on Mac.
  2. 2Save the screenshot (or copy it to the clipboard).
  3. 3Open the QRDecoder tool page in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
  4. 4Drag the screenshot file into the upload box, or use Paste from clipboard.
  5. 5Copy the decoded link or text, or open it directly in a new tab.

You do not even need to save a file. Take a snip, then use the Paste from clipboard button on the decoder page — the code is read from the clipboard image in one step. This is the fastest route for QR codes shown inside Zoom calls, slide decks, PDFs, and email newsletters.
